<p><span class="em">2. Occupancy status of the dwelling</span>
<br />Information on the occupancy status of dwellings is collected only for private dwellings.
<br />Private dwellings may be occupied or unoccupied.</p>

<p><span class="em">Occupied dwellings</span>
<br />These are dwellings that, at the time of the census, are occupied in one of two ways: occupied dwellings with people present at the time of the census, or occupied dwellings with people temporarily absent.</p>
<div class="i1">- An occupied dwelling with people present is one with one or more occupants present at the time of the census.<br />- An occupied dwelling with people temporarily absent is one that is occupied but whose occupants are absent at the time of the census.</div><span class="em">Unoccupied dwellings</span>
<br />These are dwellings that, at the time of the census, are not inhabited by anyone, but which could become inhabited at any time. Unoccupied dwellings include dwellings that are:</p>
<div class="i1">- For rent and/or sale. These are unoccupied dwellings available for rental or purchase.<br />This information may be obtained from a notice or may be provided by a neighbor.<br />- Under construction or repair. The dwelling will be included in the census as long as the roofs and other enclosures are complete, including doors, windows, and other glass.<br /><span class="pg">[p. 12]</span><br />- Abandoned. These are dwellings that despite being abandoned are still in habitable condition.</div><p>Do not include dwellings that are in ruins.
<br />Information on the dwelling's occupancy status can be obtained by observation and indicated by marking the appropriate circle or bubble.
