187. Columns E8-E13: Housing unit
<br />These questions relate to the housing unit occupied by the household you are enumerating. A housing unit is the unit of accommodation for a household. You will usually be able to answer some of these questions yourself simply from observation. However, if in doubt, ask, and then circle the most appropriate answer code. Note that in each of these columns you are to circle only one code. The relevant portion of the sample questionnaire is shown on page 82.</p>
<p>189. Column E9: Tenure of housing unit
<br />Q. How was this housing unit acquired?
<br />This question captures information on how the household acquired the housing unit which they occupy.</p>
<div class="i1">1. Self-built (owner occupied)<br />This is a housing unit built by occupants.<br />2. Rent individual<br />This is a housing unit rented from an individual.<br />3. Job related free<br />This is a housing unit acquired without making any rental plans.<br />4. Rent central government<br />This is a housing unit rented from the Central Government<br />6. Inherited-free (owner occupied)<br />This is a housing unit acquired by inheritance regardless of means of previous acquisition.<br />7. Rent company<br />This is a housing unit rented from a company.<br />8. Rent BHC<br />This is a housing unit rented from Botswana Housing Corporation (BHC).<br />9. Rent local institutions<br />This is a housing unit rented from Local Institutions (Councils, Land boards, etc.).<br />10. Rent: VDC<br />This is a housing unit rented from a Village Development Committee (VDC).<br />11. Donated<br />This is a housing unit donated to occupants by different donor individuals/organizations.<br />12. Don't know<br />This code should be used if the respondent does not know how the housing unit was acquired.</div>
