Co-operative society / self-help group
For definition of SHG, refer to paragraph 3.0.12. Co-operative society is a society formed through the co-operation of a number of persons (members of the society) to benefit the members. The funds are raised by members' contributions/ investments and the members share the profits. The government or government agency can also be a member or shareholder of a registered co-operative society but this fact cannot render the society into a public sector enterprise for the purpose of the present survey. - 5
Limited Company (outside public sector)
'Company' is an enterprise registered under the Companies' Act, 1956. A private company means a company which by its Articles, (a) RESTRICTS the right to transfer its shares, if any, (b) LIMITS the number of its members (not including its employees) to 50, and (c) PROHIBITS any invitation to public to subscribe for any shares or debentures of the company. A limited company means a company where liabilities of the shareholders are limited to the quantum of shares held by them. Pubic limited company means a company which is not a private limited company
