Question 21: The daily language used at home
Ask the question: "What language is most used daily at home?" Circle one of the appropriate codes based on the respondent's answer. If the answer is Indonesian language, circle code 1 and continue to question 23.
If the answer is local language, circle Code 2 and write the name/type of the local language under the words "Local language". The Central Bureau of Statistics/Provincial Statistic Office will fill in the code box.
Question 22: Ability to speak the Indonesian language
Ask the question: "Can you speak the Indonesian language?" Do not translate into the local language although the interview was conducted in the local language. If the respondent understands the question, then he/she is considered capable of speaking the Indonesian language. On the contrary, if the respondent shows signs of not understanding, for example if the respondent asks the meaning, he/she is considered as unable to speak the Indonesian language.
