Description

Definition
The ethnic group distinguishes the Sinhalese, Sri Lanka Tamil, Indian Tamil, Sri Lanka Moor, Burgher, Malay, Sri Lanka Chetty and Bharatha communities. Any one not belonging to one of the above groups is classified as 'Other'. The Tamils of Indian origin are classified as Indian Tamils, even though they or their parents may have obtained Sri Lanka citizenship by registration. A child of mixed ethnic parentage is regarded as belonging to the father's ethnic group.
