Interviewer instructions
Be tactful when asking questions on marital status. Always accept marital status as stated by the respondent. You may use the following abbreviations.
M - for a person who is either married religiously and/or civilly or who is living in a free union without having been formally married.
W - for a person who is widowed and has not remarried.
D - for a person who has legally obtained a divorce and has not remarried.
SEP - for a person who is living separately from his wife/her husband and no divorce has been obtained.
S - for a single person who has never been married religiously or civilly, or has never lived in a consensual union.

Description

Universe
All persons who usually live in the household including babies as well as usual members of the household who are temporarily absent such as students abroad, persons away on vacation or business trips, persons in hospitals or in penal institutions etc. However, temporary visitors to the household are not included.
