Interviewer instructions
As you list each person, enter his/her relationship with respect to the Head. For example, the wife of a married son is entered “daughter in law” (of the head) and not “spouse” (of the son). For those doing 2nd or 3rd or 4th interview, if the head has passed away or no longer the head of the household now, please update or enter each member's relationship with respect to the new head.
Description
Definition
The head of household is any adult member, male or female, who is acknowledged as such by the other members of any household.
Universe
All persons who usually live in the household including babies as well as usual members of the household who are temporarily absent such as students abroad, persons away on vacation or business trips, persons in hospitals or in penal institutions etc. However, temporary visitors to the household are not included.
