Item 7: Land owned as on date of survey (in 0.000 hectares): The land area, including homestead land, owned by the household as on the date of survey will be recorded in hectares in three places of decimal. Special care is to be taken so that for urban households land owned in rural areas and for rural households land owned in urban areas are not excluded. The entry cells have been split into two parts - one for the integer part and the other for the fractional i.e., decimal part. For 'nil' entry a dash (-) may be recorded here. A piece of land is considered 'owned by the household' if permanent heritable possession with or without the right to transfer the title is vested in a member or members of the household. Land held in owner-like possession under long-term lease or assignment is also considered as land owned. Detailed discussion regarding ownership of land has been made in Para. 1.8.7 of Chapter One of "Instructions to Field Staff" (provided as related documents).
