Definition

Es el segundo nivel de la división político administrativa del país. Está compuesto por parroquias urbanas (cabecera cantonal) y, de existir, parroquias rurales. Cada cantón es administrado por un Consejo Municipal, presidido por el alcalde o alcaldesa y un determinado número de concejales de acuerdo a su población residente.
