Interviewer instructions
1) INTERVIEWER: THIS SECTION SHOULD BE ANSWERED BY RESPONDENTS THAT REPORTED SPENDING ON RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES IN QUESTION H.6 IN THE MAIN QUESTIONNAIRE.
IF THE RESPONDENT DID NOT REPORT SPENDING ON RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES IN QUESTION H.6 IN THE MAIN QUESTIONNAIRE, GO TO SECTION ACQUISITION OF EXTERNAL KNOWLEDGE (QUESTION O.20).
2) INTERVIEWER: Research and development (R&D) is defined as creative work undertaken on a systematic basis in order to increase the stock of knowledge. For example, laboratory research for a new chemical compound of paint would be research and development while market research surveys or internet surfing would not be research and development.
