“Marital status” is the status at the time of the interview. The interviewer should
base the response on possible marital statuses recorded in the possible responses and the skill of
the interviewer to determine the true marital status of the respondent. In reality, they could reply:
for example single even though they are divorced or separated. “Married” includes all cases such
as registered marriage, religious marriage, ethnic traditional marriage without or without marital
registration; living like husband and wife but without registering marriage and not being married;
