Description

Definition
ANKNOWPREECL indicates whether the respondent reported pre-eclampsia as a symptom during pregnancy that requires immediate care.

According to the Mayo Clinic website, pre-eclampsia is a condition of pregnancy marked by the development of high blood pressure, high levels of protein in urine, vision problems, dizziness, headaches, and swelling of feet, legs, and hands. If untreated, pre-eclampsia can lead to eclampsia, a serious condition that puts mother and child at risk of death.
