FOR EACH BIRTH SINCE JUNE 1998, ENTER 'B' IN THE MONTH OF BIRTH IN COLUMN 1 OF THE CALENDAR, FOR EACH BIRTH, ASK THE NUMBER OF MONTHS THE PREGNANCY LASTED AND RECORD 'P' IN EACH OF THE PRECEDING MONTHS ACCORDING TO THE DURATION OF PREGNANCY. (NOTE: THE NUMBER OF 'P'S MUST BE ONE LESS THAN THE NUMBER OF MONTHS THAT THE PREGNANCY LASTED.) WRITE THE NAME OF THE CHILD TO THE LEFT OF THE 'B' CODE.

Definition
PRECALBIDX (V235) provides the birth index number (see BIDX for more information) of the last child born to the woman before the start of the survey's birth calendar. For the majority of samples, PRECALBIDX reports the birth index number of the last child born prior to 5 years before the survey. For a minority of samples, the reference period is 3 or 4 years before the survey.
