Description

Definition
For children with a fever or cough in the past 2 weeks, FEVTRBD17 indicates, in response to an open-ended question, whether the child received treatment from a private "qualified doctor." This response category is country-specific to Bangladesh.

Some samples in the "FEVTR" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

For the 2011 and 2014 Bangladesh samples, FEVTRBD17 is combined with FEVTRBD6 (private "unqualified [traditional] doctor") in FEVTRPRIVDR (all private doctors). IPUMS-DHS users interested in using FEVTRBD17 are encouraged to review FEVTRPRIVDR for a more comprehensive response category for these two samples.
