Definition
For women who gave birth in the last five years, ANCAREML3_01 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, they reported that a midwife gave antenatal care (for the last birth). This response category is country-specific to Mali.

Some samples in the "ANCARE" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

ANCAREML3_01 is combined with ANCAREML1_01 (obstetrics nurse), and ANCAREML2_01 (other nurse) for the 2006 Mali sample to create the standard variable ANCARENURM_01.
