HIVCONSENT (V473a) indicates whether permission was granted for the person's blood to be drawn and tested for HIV antibodies or, if not, why not. Interviewers read a statement about HIV testing and requested permission to draw and test the individual's blood; blood was drawn only if consent was given by the persons themselves (if adults) or by a parent or guardian (if a minor).
