Definition
For children with diarrhea in the past 2 weeks, DIATRMG1 indicates, in response to an open-ended question, whether the child received treatment from a level I government hospital. This response category is country-specific to Madagascar.

Some samples in the "DIATR" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

DIATRMG1 is combined with DIATRMG2 (Level II government hospital) in DIATRPUBHOS (all public hospitals) for the 2003 and 2008 Madagascar samples. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using DIATRMG1 are encouraged to review DIATRPUBHOS for a more comprehensive response category.
