MLTESTED (HML33) indicates whether the household member was tested (measured) for malaria.
The DHS uses two types of malaria tests: a rapid diagnostic test (RDT) and laboratory testing of blood smears. The RDT test detects specific antigens (foreign substances provoking an immune response in the body) produced by malaria parasites, and reports the presence of those antigens via a color change within a few minutes after a drop of blood has been placed on an absorbing strip.
