Definition
For women in households who have ever received assistance - such as money, food, or some "other" form of assistance - from a government or non-governmental organization (NGO), ASSISTIMUNIT, combined with ASSISTIMNO, reports the last time the household received assistance.
IPUMS-DHS users should note that this variable reports only the specific unit of time i.e. months, or years. The specific number of months or years is reported in ASSISTIMNO. As a result, researchers interested in using ASSISTIMUNIT should also use ASSISTIMNO, or ASSISTIMCOM , a composite variable that reports both the units in which the respondent gave her answer and the time in the units given.
The information in ASSISTIMUNIT is taken from the household record, linked to the record of the woman respondent. This information applies to household residents, not temporary visitors, so researchers may wish to exclude visitors using the RESIDENT variable (with visitors coded "2").
