Definition
For children with a fever or cough in the past 2 weeks, FEVTRPK4 indicates, in response to an open-ended question, whether the child received treatment from a "hakim" (herbalist). This response category is country-specific to Pakistan.
Some samples in the "FEVTR" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
FEVTRPK4 is combined with other traditional practitioners and healers in the 1991, 2006, 2012, and 2017 Pakistan surveys:
In the 1991 Pakistan survey, FEVTRPK4 is combined with FEVTRPK3 (homeopath) and FEVTRPK6 (faith healer) in FEVTRPRIVHL (all traditional practitioners/healers).
In the 2006 and 2012 Pakistan samples, FEVTRPK4 is combined with FEVTRPK3 (homeopath) and FEVTRPK5 (dai/traditional birth attendant) in FEVTRPRIVHL (all traditional practitioners/healers).
In the 2017 Pakistan sample, FEVTRPK4 is combined with FEVTRPK3 (homeopath), FEVTRPK5 (dai/traditional birth attendant), and FEVTRPPK11 (community midwife) in FEVTRPRIVHL (all traditional practitioners/healers).
IPUMS-DHS users interested in using FEVTRPK4 are encouraged to review FEVTRPRIVHL for a more comprehensive response category.
