For children with diarrhea in the past 2 weeks, DIATRYE1 indicates, in response to an open-ended question, whether the child received treatment from a traditional practitioner. This response category is country-specific to Yemen.
Some samples in the "DIATR" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
For the 1991 Yemen sample, DIATRYE1 is combined with DIATRYE2 (traditional midwife) in DIATRPRIVHL (all traditional practitioners/healers). IPUMS-DHS users interested in using DIATRYE1 are encouraged to review DIATRPRIVHL for a more comprehensive response category.
