Description

Definition
FPKNOTRAD indicates whether the woman knew about using some "other" unspecified folkloric method as a method for family planning. The complementary variable FPEVUSTRAD indicates whether the woman had ever used some "other" folkloric method to delay or avoid a pregnancy.

Some samples differentiate between spontaneous and probed affirmative responses; see Comparability.

The meaning of "other" in this case depends on the specific response categories included in a given sample. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the "FPTYP" series of variables which report whether a contraceptive method is modern, traditional, or folkloric in a given sample to better discern the meaning of "other" in this case.
