    Labor Force Survey [hh/lfs]

    Series Information

Labour Force Survey was carried out in our country for the first time in 1994, as a pilot survey, and since 1995 this has been conducted as a regular annual survey. In previous surveys, the frame for sample selection was the 1991 Census of population, households and dwellings and the survey sample included about 3900 households.

The Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia publishes the final data of the Labour Force Survey 2013.

The survey was conducted in March and October 2013 in the territory of the Republic of Serbia. In determining the main contingents of labour force we applied the international recommendations and definitions and therefore the data of this survey present the main source of labor force statistics that are internationally comparable, by their contents and regarding the applied methodology.

    Abstract

Labour Force Survey is a survey envisaged to collect the data on the main features of labour force, based on which we estimate the total labour force in the country. The principal objective of the study is to provide for the data on three main, independent contingents of population: employed, unemployed and inactive persons. The study specially takes into account the working-age population (aged 15-64) and the data collected are used to monitor, to measure and to assess the economic and social trends in the Republic of Serbia.

    Sampling

    Sampling Procedure

Rotation panel sample was applied and it provides the optimum sample efficiency for estimating changes and mean values through repeated measurements. The sample is designed in a way that the survey can be carried out several times a year (biannually, quarterly and all year round).

Basic set includes all households and persons that work or reside for one year and more on the territory of the Republic of Serbia. Excluded are persons that live abroad for more than one year and persons in institutional households (students' homes, homes for children and young people with developmental disability, homes for socially imperilled children, old / retired people homes, homes for adults with disability, monasteries, nunneries, etc.).

Type of sample - Two-stage, stratified sample. The first stage units are enumeration areas and the second stage units are households.

Stratification. Enumeration areas, as primary units, are stratified by the type of settlement (urban and other) and by territory covered by administrative districts. The central Serbia administrative districts are Belgrade municipalities, Macva, Kolubara, Podunavlje, Branicevo, Sumadija, Pomoravlje, Bor, Zajecar, Zlatibor, Moravica, Raska, Rasina, Nisava, Toplica, Pirot, Jablanica and Pcinja administrative district. The administrative districts of Vojvodina are North Backa, Central Banat, North Banat, South Banat, West Backa, South Backa and Srem administrative district.

In 2013 the sample revision was carried out pursuant to 2011 Census. The target sample size for 2013 was 22196 households.

    Weighting

The basic weight resulting from the applied sampling design was corrected to allow for non-response. In order that estimates of totals (of number of persons) should comply with the current demographic estimations, we implemented post-stratification by age (below 14, 15 and over) and by administrative districts, according to the estimated number of persons for the referent period, which corresponds to the basic set observed by the survey.

    Data collection

    Dates of Data Collection
    Start End
    2013 2013
    Data Collection Notes

Method of collection is different: in the Labour Force Survey the data are collected from the persons, i.e. members of the households selected for the sample, while the data from administrative sources are collected from the reports by enterprises, institutions, cooperatives or other organizations.

    Data appraisal

    Estimates of Sampling Error

Estimated were the total and average values and the respective errors, for the Republic of Serbia – total, and NUTS 2 level (Region of Belgrade, Region of Vojvodina, Region of Sumadija and West Serbia, region of South and East Serbia, Region of Kosovo and Metohija).

Sampling errors are published for the main population features only (main population features, and employment and unemployment). Along with coefficient of variation (CV), as relative measures of estimation reliability (%), provided are also 95% intervals of confidence for the parameters.
