Abstract
This paper employs pseudo-panel approach for analyzing the factors determining percep- tions about marital violence among women in Africa. Pseudo-panel data are constructed from repeated cross-sections of Demographic and Health surveys collected in ve African countries in the 2000s. Estimates show over her life cycle, women tend to think that marital violence is less and less justi able and that younger cohorts are less likely than older cohorts to view marital violence as a justi able phenomenon, even controlling for education. Country-speci c patterns are found in terms of cohort e ects and on the role of education in amplifying the decrease in acceptation over the life cycle.
