Abstract | Quality of health care provision is among the key ingredients for improved welfare and yet is often scarce in Sub-Saharan Africa. By providing both, high quality primary health care and a viable concept to finance the cost of treatment, the Community Health Program of the Health Insurance Fund (HIF) aims at alleviating households from poverty. The insurance scheme was launched in January 2007. The insurance scheme covers primary and limited secondary healthcare services, including the treatment of HIV/AIDS, malaria and TB. Beneficiaries are individually enrolled on an annual basis. |
