Abstract |
This book is intended as a reference source for the 1991 Indian census. It presents statistical data at the district level for all the states and Union Territories. The state and district tables concern population and growth rates of districts; population growth, 1901-1991; sex ratio and population density, 1981 and 1991; literacy, 1961-1991; and urban population by sex and literacy. A selection of 1991 census tables for the whole of India is also included. In an introductory text, the authors examine the policy implications of current demographic trends and describe the need for demographic zoning to facilitate population policy planning. The role of population in allocating resources is also addressed. |
