Analysis of data from the Intercensal Survey (1985) on fertility trends in Indonesia indicates that during the period from 1980 to 1985 the Total Fertility Rate (calculated using last birth method) fell 24%, from 4.3 to 3.3. Much of the decline is attributed to increased family planning. Differences in prevalence rates across the 27 provinces in Indonesia are partly explained by the availability of services. Results strongly suggest that the Intercensal Survey of 1985 provides an underestimate of prevalence rate, perhaps by as much as 7%. Consolidation of natinal family planning prevalence rate. It is hoped that strong efforts will continue to ensure widespread provision of care and that services will provide access to new contraceptive technology as well as a flexible approach to users who wish to switch methods if difficulties arise.
