Abstract
Early marriage is a complex phenomenon in Bangladesh due to various factors. It is found that complex set of relationship exists among the various socioeconomic, cultural and demographic events, which affect the fertility in Bangladesh and can provide us a preliminary idea of how important each variable is by itself. Result shows that women in Bangladesh engage in sexual activities at an early age before 20 years. Early marriage has a significant effect on divorce and remarriage and late marriage is also, associated with a significant increase in female schooling, adult literacy and quality of marital life. Islam religion has a more tendency to early marry. Findings need to be scientifically used in suitable programs addressing the case of fertility control in the developing countries as well as in Bangladesh.
