In 2002, 5.219 m3 per day of waste ware generated in Jakarta Selatan, or 2.9 litres per person per day. the increase in waste generation in Jakarta has been correlated with increased economic activity and population growth. The implementation of integrated waste management through a coordinated mix of practices that includes soure reduction, recycling, composting, and combution, can be significantly reduced the waste to be transported to final disposal. Dinas Kebersihan Jakarta Selatan establishes a hierarchy for the management of solid waste. The first objective is to prevent the generation of the waste. If that is not possible, reuse is the next best option, followed by recycling, composting, and energy recovery. Safe disposal is the last option, if none of the others is feasible.Source reduction is waste prevention, includes many actions that reduce the overall amount of waste created. The portion of waste requiring incineration or land disposal can be significantly reduced by examining individual contributions to garbage and by promoting the wise use and reuse of resources. |
