Abstract | Poverty reduction is about improving the well-being of disadvantaged families, sharing the benefits of growth across communities in villages and cities, and connecting remote regions within the country and with the rest of the world. This agenda has played a central role in Thailand’s development model. There is little doubt that commitment to poverty reduction by policy makers, businesses, and civil society has contributed to a remarkable record of poverty reduction over recent decades. Yet, questions and concerns have been raised about the effectiveness of economic policies in supporting growth in household income and providing communities with access to basic services.
