Abstract
Planning one’s family is the ultimate option in controlling and managing population growth. The rational of this paper was to provide information about the current usage of contraceptives in Ghana for the various health related institutions under the Ministry of Health, the government, and the general public at large. Contextually, the study was limited to factors influencing current contraceptives usage and geographically to Adentan Municipality in Greater Accra Region of Ghana. Using a descriptive exploratory method, a structured questionnaire was administered to 200 people in the municipality. The data obtained was analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20. The results indicated that a combination of factors {such as husband / partner not in favor (10.0%); fear of side effects (27.68%); religious beliefs (11.61%); etc} significantly predicted the utilization of contraceptives among the
respondents. Based on the results of these findings, it was recommended that those in the health professions should take
cognizance of those variables that have been found to mitigate against the use of contraceptive.
