Abstract
India in the recent past has witnessed an upsurge in research on various aspects of women's existence, with the early focus on the social facets of their status giving way of analyses of women's location within the sphere of economic production, a shift that was prompted by the alarming decline in female participation. This paper reviews research literature on women in agriculture, highlighting the lacunae and pointing to possible areas of fruitful future research.
