Abstract | An attempt is made in this paper to review in detail changes in the structure of rural employment in Kerala, in particular non-agricultural employment, focusing on the weaknesses of the emerging structure. Section I of the paper discusses the relevant characteristics of Kerala's rural economy. Section II presents the empirical evidence. Section III attempts to explain the changes observed by identifying some broad causal factors and Section IV presents the author's conclusions. |
