Abstract | Production and marketing of tilapias in Central Thailand is diverse in form and significant in scale. The sustainability of livelihoods associated with tilapia culture is influenced by numerous factors. Region based urbanization, economic performance at the farm level, and internal and external environmental factors are identified as the key determinants of sustainability in this context. These are explored in detail with reference to the results of primary field-based research and supporting secondary data. The interaction of these elements is described and their implications are discussed vis a vis system and livelihood sustainability. |
