Abstract
This study aims to examine the influence of demographic, socioeconomic and mass media exposure factors on mothers in terms of their seeking postpartum checkups with skilled health personnel in Cambodia. The sample size was 5832 women of reproductive age (15-49) who gave last live birth within the five years prior to the Cambodian Demographic and Health Survey, 2005. Binary logistic regression shows that demographic factors (mothers’ age, parity and place of delivery), socioeconomic factors (wealth quintile, agricultural workers, mother’s education) and mass media factor (watching TV) are statistically significant influences on mothers seeking postpartum checkups with skilled health personnel. The findings suggest that utilization of maternal health care services for postpartum checkups among Cambodian mothers, especially mothers who are young, high parity, delivered at home, the poorest, uneducated and not exposed to mass media such as radio and television can be improved by promoting health education, free services, regular outreach and mass media campaigns.
