Abstract |
The aim of this study was to generate empirical information on consumer’s level of satisfaction with household furniture produced by Small and Medium Furniture Enterprises (SMFEs) in Uganda. Specifically, the study investigates the product attributes that consumers consider important when choosing wooden furniture for household use and how these affect their overall satisfaction. Using a questionnaire survey and in-depth interviews, data were collected from 350 respondents who had bought household furniture from SMFEs in the last 1–5 years. The results using logistic regression indicate that furniture design, finish and durability are the strongest predictors of overall satisfaction for furniture. In addition, the level of satisfaction much depends on education, income and age of a consumer. The study concludes that consumer centered production can be a good strategy to improve market competitiveness of SMFEs through development of specialty furniture that can favorably compete with imported furniture. |
