Abstract
Migration is a universal phenomenon of human civilization. The processes and forms of migration among human beings have been changing over years. In modern times it is the movement of families and, still more of individuals seeking economic settlement and transient work in other lands. Several types of push and pull factors may influence people in their movements such as environmental, political, economic and cultural. But the main reasons of migration are unemployment/underemployment, financial problem, lack of agricultural land or very little land in native place, family dispute, peer influences etc. The Consequences of migration could be seen on economic, demographic, social and environmental ground with both positive and negative effect. To control migration over the past four decades, governments in developing countries especially in India, have adopted many explicit population distribution policies and programs to de-concentrate urbanization and facilitate a more balanced spatial development. Governments also promoted intermediate-size cities and regional centers by extending support services to them, improving their infrastructure, and strengthening linkages between intermediate-size and large cities. Integrated rural development programs were implemented to provide agricultural inputs and social services, increase infrastructural investments, and improve agricultural productivity and income. This article will focus on the migration and its consequences and explore how it could be de-concentrate with government policy and programmes in India.
