In the current research, as mentioned in the title, the use of Information and
Communication Technologies (ICTs) in education in an indigenous context is addressed
in regards to the mixe community of Oaxaca. Besides the insufficient technological
infrastructure, is added the poor condition of most indigenous peoples of Mexico,
particularly the state of Oaxaca’s weak economic development and educational lag.
Therefore, geographic, economic and social conditions in many indigenous communities
make it twice as difficult for groups of people who live there to have equal access to
information and communication technologies in comparison to other population groups in
the country.
Development projects and programs that have been implemented in the region as
the e-Mexico, Enciclomedia, access to digital services in public libraries and educational
television satellite network, among others, have not been sufficient to generally
incorporate significant advances to indigenous communities and the digital world of
information, have not had the need to achieve their stated objectives impact.
