Abstract | The main bulk ofrural-urban female migrants employed as domestic helpers migrated directly to the metropolis with no definite reason but "to see Manila. .. Most of them come from the barriosand never had an opportunity to move geographically. The paternalistic system is evident in the recruit· ment of domestics and in employer.helper relationships. Because of the discouraging features of domestic service (low prestige, low salary, transitory nature, and non-contractual relationship), it probably willgradually disappearas an occupation. |
