Abstract | “Transborder cooperation represents direct cooperation between the adjoining regions along the border, on every field, between local and regional authorities, involving all the actors.” (Asociatia Regiunilor de Granita Europene – Studiul LACE asupra Initiativei UE Interreg si a perspectivelor de viitor, iulie 1997). The aim of the cooperation between border and transborder regions is to develop cooperation structures, procedures and tools that will eventually allow to overcome obstacles and to sustain the elimination of the dividing agents. The goal of the European territorial cooperation consists of the reinforcement of transborder cooperation, the consolidation of the transnational relations, the stimulation of interregional cooperation and experience exchange. The necessity of cooperation is given by the existence of a disparity between states and regions and also by the low level of development of the border regions. Among the main goals of the transborder cooperation there are: rational use of the common natural resources and their preservation, economical development and the increase of the standards of living, supporting business transborder cooperation, promoting socio-cultural cooperation, developing pan-European transportation and communication networks, improving the information exchange regarding the common opportunities for the border region and also the landscape development and environment preservation for the ecological sensitive areas. |
