Abstract |
Main purpose of the study was to assess the Adult Literacy progress in Pakistan's populus province (about half of national population), Punjab for the achievement of Education for All (EFA). 10 District Level Officers (DLOs), 50 Representatives of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), and 300 Literacy Teachers (LTs) were taken as sample randomly. The data were collected through questionnaires designed separately for (DLOs), representatives of (NGOs), and (LTs). The study revealed that Adult Literacy Centres (ALCs) were playing vital role in the achievement of EFA targets by providing threshold literacy facility to the adults in the far flung rural areas of Punjab. Representatives of NGOs were also candling the light of knowledge by establishing ALCs in these areas. Despite of the fruitful efforts and achievements of GOs and NGOs still this project needs Government's especial heed in creating awareness through media campaign and opening of more ALCs. |
