Abstract
This indicator shows the number and proportion of children living in households that are income-poor. These households fall below a specific income threshold. The measure used is a lower bound “ultra” poverty line, set at R322 per person per month in 2000 prices.1 The poverty line increases with inflation and was equivalent to R671 in 2013. Per capita income is calculated by adding all reported income for household members older than 15 years, including social grants, and dividing the total household income by the number of household members.
