In this paper the 1984 Population and Housing Census data of Addis Ababa was analyzed in order to determine an acceptable fertility level for the city. The wide variation in the range of estimates poses a lot of problems when it comes to selecting the 'true' or 'closest to the true' value. The plausible level of fertility arrived at eventually for the city was in the neighbourhood of TFR = 6. /// Les données du recensement de 1984 de la ville d'Addis Ababa sont analysées afin de déterminer le niveau de fertilité de la ville.
