Abstract | Using Greek Census data for 1991 and 2001 and applying IV-estimation techniques suggested by Angrist and Evans (1998), we investigate whether parental preferences regarding the sex composition of children identify the causal effect of fertility on maternal employment. The results show that sibling-sex composition is at best a weak instrument in Greece, a low-fertility/low-employment country |
