Abstract | Studies have revealed that finance is a major constraint to participation in community development projects. Hence this research was conducted to determine the influence of socioeconomic status on the level of participation in community-based development projects. Two wards were selected through random sampling technique from each of the four districts in the area. From each of the eight wards, ten household heads were randomly selected to obtain the total sample of eighty (80) respondents for the study. Many of the respondents (42.5%) participated in community-based development projects at an average level, 38.8% at high level and 18.8% at low level. Significant relationships at p < 0.05 exist between level of participation 2 2 in community-based development projects and respondents' sex (? = 22.050), age (? = 2 2 2 45.250); educational level (? = 43.500); marital status (? = 150.875) and indigeneship (? = 45.00). There were positive correlation between social status, and economic status of respondents and their level of participation in community based projects. Therefore, rural dwellers should be given due financial empowerment to further encourage them complement government efforts in community development. |
