Abstract
Rice production in Nigeria has increased over the last few decades due to the introduction of
modern rice production technologies at an increase cost to the environment. It is predicted that
during the coming decades, global climate are likely to affect agriculture including rice
production. Conversely, rice production has its effects on the environment. A more
environmentally sound rice production technology is recommended. This paper reviews
problems of increase chemical inputs in modern rice production system on the environment in
Nigeria and the urgent need for a new approach.
