Abstract
This edited volume is about migration as well as the study of
migration in China. It presents some useful methodological
approaches, definitions etc. to migration studies and it will
also be valuable for people who want to enter the field of
migration studies in China. The first chapter, by Cheng Li,
gives an overview of the present situation which would be
of great interest for the lay reader as well as the scholarly
community. In the second chapter Zhang Kangqing presents
a Chinese survey from Shanghai showing how Chinese
scholars deal with the topic. Finally Hein Mallee clarifies
definitions and methodology pointing out many of the traps
and misunderstandings of the field.
