Abstract | This study focused on Marina Tourism Resort and livelihoods of Duke Town, Cross River State. The paper examined the resort's contribution to the livelihood source of the study area. The study identified existing livelihoods of the people, assessed the major attractions in the resort, and evaluated the impact of the resort on the livelihoods of the community. Data used in the study was generated from the field through semi-structured interviews (SSI) and on-the-spot field observation. Findings revealed among others that the resort has gainfully employed members of the community, empowered some and there is still capacity to empower more. On a whole, the resort's impact on the livelihoods of the community is marginal. Based on the findings, it is recommended that tour guiding, skill development/acquisition, and provision of scholarships for willing members of the community to improve their educational level should be given more attention by the government to the community in order to create sustainable business environment. |
