Abstract | Gender, generally describes the various roles played by males and females and the relative power they wield in the society. Gender in recent times is proving to be an increasingly complex concept because it presents multiple forms as it intersects with other powerful social markers. Gender imbalance exists not only in the Nigerian educational system but in almost all spheres of human endeavour everywhere. Nearly in every society, females face disadvantages relative to males in political, social, economic and educational spheres of life. There is then the danger that some aspects of knowledge may erode time-held values and even encourage marginalization or outright oppression. Education as a tool for human advancement is thereof necessary to address several gender issues that border on one sex gaining more than the other. Globalization presumably gives everyone an equal chance if each individual just improves his or her educational levels. This paper discussed the shrinking of the world space such that we now have a global village. It also discussed how globalization can be factored into the academic curricula of different natives with the aim of addressing gender imbalance, genderassociated hindrance to education and professional development. The present efforts of the political administration in Imo State of Nigeria are placed in tandem with these issues of gender, education and globalization. |
