Abstract | There is limited literature pertaining to urban food security in Botswana. This is the case because many studies on food security tend to focus on the rural areas. Many researchers view food security from an agricultural perspective hence concentrate their efforts on the primary base of the agricultural sector. This paper is therefore, a contribution to the understanding of urban food security in Botswana. The paper identifies the determinants of urban household food security in Botswana. A multiple linear regression model is employed to analyze the data. The study uses the 2008 Urban Food Security Baseline Survey (UFSBFS) data for Botswana. The results show that wage income, gender of household head, household size and age of the household head have significant influence on urban household food security. Education and dependency ratio were found to have no significant effect on urban food security. These results carry important information relating to the design of policies and specific programmes aimed at addressing urban food security concerns. |
